IELTS Speaking Test Information
Speaking module is divided into three parts. A conversation happens between two people, the candidate and the examiner. The duration of this module is 10-15 minutes and the conversation happens face-to-face.
The three parts of speaking module is divided into three sections such as:
1.General questions: Basically, this is the section is to be considered as Warm-up session. There are some questions asked on general topics like: Hometown, Trees, Newspaper, History and so on. There is no need to elaborate answers too long, give answers within 2-3 lines or add one more line.
For example:- Do you like gifts?
Answer: Of course, I like gifts because it is considered as a token of love. One can express the feelings and emotions by sending and receiving the gifts.
2. Cue card: Cue card is a 2 minute topic. An examiner gives 1 minute to think upon the topic/situation and the candidate has to explain the situation within 2 minutes. An examiner can stop you after 1 minute or 1 minute 20 seconds, it entirely depends upon the examiner.
A candidate must cover all the sub points whatever is given in the cue card, otherwise the candidate will lose bands.
3. Follow ups: Follow up questions are considered as discussion. There are distinct questions that are a part of cue card which means follow ups are closely linked with the cue card. Candidate must elaborate their answers in a minimum of 5 to 6 sentences. The number of follow up questions to be asked solely depends upon the examiner. Be confident and fluent as these are the key factors to crack the speaking module.
