IELTS Writing Task 2

Plant trees more in open areas of towns and cities rather than houses

You should spend 40 minutes on this task:

Some people think that it is more important to plant trees more in open areas of towns and cities than to build more houses. Do you agree or disagree?

It is an irrefutable fact that vegetation plays integral and crucial impacts to balance the ecosystem. Some protagonists advocate that authorities must plant trees in open urban areas, whereas others oppose this. I believe that it is not only the responsibility of the government to plant trees but also individuals should initiate the same.

To begin with, the imperative and fruitful influences of planting trees in vacant areas of towns and cities. In this contemporary era, environment is degrading day by day due to plethora of factors substantially like escalation in use of private vehicles, deforestation, emission of harmful and toxic gases from industries and factories and so on which not only put deleterious impacts on the human’s health, but also disturbs the entire biodiversity, as a result it disorganizes the climatic scenarios which leads to global warming. Moreover, by planting more and more trees, this helps to purify the polluted air especially in cities where there is a lot of pollution which is the main concern in metropolitan cities like Delhi and Mumbai, as well as it controls the rain water to run off through which soil erosion can be mitigated.

In addition, afforestation gives shelter to many habitats which is the another advantage, humans are cutting down trees everywhere, resulting in no shelter for the birds, even the wildlife is also in the stage of extinction. For instance: An article published in the newspaper “The tribune” ,it is observed that in urban areas people merely get a chance to see birds such as sparrows, parrots, woodpecker and so on, to cope with this situation, it should be the duty of individuals to plant trees in empty areas whether in cities or towns. Nevertheless, housing is needed to meet the demand of the burgeoning population, so authorities must construct vertical buildings in lieu of horizontal.

To conclude, after thoroughly examining this alarming issue; although in my opinion, no doubt we need houses in cities to live in, but to strengthen and improve the quality of the life in overcrowded cities, we need trees, consequently to ensure balance in both the aspects.
